Vision

21st Century

I strongly support our district’s mission to help students develop 21st century skills, enabling them to “demonstrate the ability to solve problems and adapt to changes in the world around them.”

In light of our current economic situation and the potential cuts to our state’s education funding, our school board has an important opportunity to demonstrate the use of those skills in real life.  We need to clearly identify our district priorities and find ways to adapt to the changes in our budget.  We need to be problem solvers and make proactive, not reactive, decisions.  As educational leaders, the board must be willing to be creative and look for new and innovative solutions to the challenges we face.

We must continue to strive towards delivering the highest quality education to all students, equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in today’s fast paced and increasingly competitive global market.

I  believe it is important for us to increase communication between the school district and families in our community.  By partnering with our communities, we can strengthen our district while working to  provide all students with a challenging and comprehensive curriculum of the highest academic quality.

I am a strong supporter of special education and will promote all efforts to build our special education program.  All children have the right to a high quality, 21st century education, regardless of their current abilities.  Every child should have the opportunity to learn something new every day.

Kansas state law requires that schools provide children enrolled in special education, including those enrolled in gifted education, with an Individualized Education Program so that they may have access to the general education curriculum in the regular classroom to the maximum extent possible.   We must also make sure that teachers are equipped to teach children with special needs and abilities, by providing them with adequate resources, support, and training needed to include them in the general education classroom.

All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talent. – John F. Kennedy
